Keen privacy policy
Effective date: 6 November 2026
Keen ("the app") is a brain-training app for Android published by Oyrial ("we"). This policy explains what information the app handles and what happens to it.
In short: Keen needs an account, so your progress is safe and comes with you to a new phone. We keep your email, your training progress and, if you send any, your friend challenges. The app has no ads and uses optional usage analytics, and we never sell your data. You can delete your account and everything in it at any time.
Your account
You sign in with an email and password, or with Google. Sign-in is run by Firebase Authentication, a Google service, which stores your email address, a password that we cannot read, and, if you use Google sign-in, the name on your Google account. Google handles this under Google's Privacy Policy.
Our own server sees your email address and an account number each time the app talks to it, and keeps the date you first signed in, the date you last used the app, and the app version.
Your progress
So that your training follows your account, the app saves a copy of your progress to our server, hosted in Singapore. The copy holds:
- The first name you type in during setup, used to greet you.
- Your goals chosen during setup, used to pick lessons for you.
- Your training results: game scores and levels, lesson results, monthly check-up results and your answers to the weekly "Did it help?" question.
- Your daily check-in: whether you walked, slept well, talked with someone or learned something new, and a mood rating. These are simple ticks you enter yourself, used only to show your own habit history.
- Friend challenges you start or receive: the game, your score and, if you enter it, the other person's name and score.
- Your comfort settings: text size, theme, calm mode, relaxed games, sound and vibration.
Only you can read this copy, by signing in. We do not look at it, analyse it or share it. The names of people in the names-and-faces lessons are made up and belong to the app's practice content. It is sent over an encrypted connection.
Purchases
Keen Premium is sold through Google Play. Google processes the payment; we never see your card or bank details. To unlock Premium on any phone you sign in on, the app sends Google Play's purchase reference to our server, which asks Google whether the purchase is real and active. We keep that reference and where your Premium stands (plan, price, start and renewal dates) with your account. Google's handling of purchase information is covered by Google's Privacy Policy and the Google Play Terms of Service.
Health Connect (optional)
If you turn on Steps from Health Connect in Keen's settings, the app reads today's step count from Health Connect to show it on your daily check-in and pre-tick "I went for a walk". Keen asks for permission first, and you can withdraw it at any time in Health Connect's settings. Keen does not write anything to Health Connect and reads no other health data.
Data read from Health Connect:
- is used only on your phone, at the moment you open the check-in, and is not stored by Keen;
- is never sent to us or to any third party: the step count is not part of your saved progress;
- is never used for advertising, sold, or used to decide eligibility for credit, insurance or employment.
Keen's use of information received from Health Connect follows the Health Connect Permissions policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
Optional usage analytics
From the next app update, Keen asks whether you want to help improve the app with usage analytics. Nothing is sent to PostHog until you choose Allow analytics. You can decline without losing any features, and switch this off in Account > Help improve Keen at any time.
If allowed, PostHog, Inc., in the United States, receives app opens, the first time an installation is seen, account creation and sign-in events, completed activity counts, and Google-verified Premium plan status, including whether a purchase is a test or trial. Events include timestamps, a random installation identifier, a hashed account identifier when signed in, app version and basic device/operating-system details. Network requests expose your IP address to the provider. These identifiers are pseudonymous, not anonymous.
We do not send your email, name, answers, scores, daily check-ins, Health Connect data or payment details to PostHog. Screen recordings, advertising IDs and automatic link capture are disabled. We use these events only to improve Keen and measure usage, not for advertising. Known owner and tester activity can be excluded from customer reports. An installation is counted only after the app opens and you allow analytics, not when it is merely downloaded.
Analytics events are retained for up to one year under our free PostHog plan. Turning analytics off stops future collection; it does not erase previously sent events. Deleting your Keen account also queues a request to delete its PostHog profile and associated events. Requests retry automatically if PostHog is unavailable; provider deletion can take up to 30 days. To request earlier deletion, contact [email protected] from your account email; we handle requests within 30 days. See PostHog’s privacy policy.
Who we share with
Nobody, beyond the services that make the app work: Google (Firebase Authentication for sign-in, Google Play for purchases) and OVHcloud, which hosts our server. If you opt in, PostHog processes usage analytics as described above. We do not sell your data, show ads, or give your data to advertisers or data brokers.
Backups you make yourself
Keen can also save a backup file of your progress when you ask it to. You choose where that file goes (for example your phone's storage or a cloud drive you use). The file is not sent to us. If you have turned on Android backup on your phone, Android may also include Keen's data in your device backup, which is stored in your own Google account and handled by Google.
Sharing you choose to do
When you send a challenge or a daily teaser, Keen opens Android's share sheet and you pick the app and the person. Only the text you see is shared, and only when you tap send.
Support messages and crash reports
If you write to us from Help, we receive your message, the email address you choose to give, your account id, your app version and your phone model. We use them only to answer you, and you read our answer in the app. Support messages are kept on Oyrial's own server, not with any other company.
If Keen crashes, the next time you open it the app sends us the name of the error and where in the app it happened, with your app version and phone model. It does not say who you are and holds nothing you typed or trained.
Notifications
If you turn on the daily reminder, Keen schedules a local notification on your phone. No information leaves the device to do this.
If you allow notifications, we may also send you news about Keen now and then. For that, your phone gets an address from Google's Firebase Cloud Messaging (a "push token") and the app gives it to our server, kept with your account. It identifies this install of the app and nothing else. Switch notifications off in Android and the app tells our server to forget it; it is also erased when you delete your account.
Permissions
- Internet: to sign in and save your progress.
- Notifications: for the optional daily reminder.
- Vibration: for the optional light buzz on wrong answers.
- Google Play billing: to sell Keen Premium.
- Health Connect (read steps): only if you turn it on.
Keeping and deleting your data
We keep your account and progress for as long as you have the account.
To delete everything, open Keen and go to Settings > My Profile > Delete my account. This permanently deletes your sign-in, your saved progress, your Premium record and everything else we hold from our server and from Firebase, straight away.
If you no longer have the app, ask us at [email protected] from the email address of your account, or see keen.oyrial.com/delete-account. We delete the account within 30 days.
Signing out removes your progress from the phone but keeps it in your account. Deleting an account does not cancel a Premium subscription: do that in Google Play's Payments & subscriptions page.
Children
Keen is intended for teens and adults aged 13 and over. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information to Keen, contact [email protected] so we can investigate and delete it.
Medical disclaimer
Keen is practice for everyday memory and focus. It is not a medical device and does not diagnose, treat or prevent any condition. If memory problems worry you, talk to a doctor.
The Keen website
The website keen.oyrial.com counts page views so we can see which pages are read. Each view adds one to a daily total for that page, together with a broad referral category (for example search or social) and the visitor's country, which our network provider Cloudflare supplies. No cookie, no identifier and no IP address is kept, and nothing is counted if your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control. This page-view counting happens on the website only. Optional app analytics are described above.
The website also counts clicks on its Google Play buttons the same way: one daily total per page, nothing about the person. If you gave your email address in the earlier "email me at launch" form, we keep it in our support inbox only to send you one message that Keen is on Google Play, and occasional news after that. It is never sold or shared. To stop, reply "unsubscribe" or write to [email protected], and we delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how Keen handles information, we will update this policy and its effective date before the change reaches the app, and explain the change in the app's release notes.
